Oracle Cloud

My move to Oracle Cloud was a gradual transition rather than a fresh start.

After many years of working with traditional Oracle Database environments, I began moving applications and infrastructure toward Oracle Cloud Infrastructure and Autonomous Database.

That experience gave me an interesting perspective: what changes when you move to the cloud — and what does not?

My cloud journey

I did not start my career in the cloud.

I came to OCI after years of designing, developing and operating traditional Oracle-based business applications.

This means I tend to look at cloud services from a practical perspective:

What becomes simpler? What becomes more complex? And what provides real value for an existing Oracle application?

Autonomous Database

Oracle Autonomous Database became an important part of my cloud journey.

I have documented my transition from traditional Oracle infrastructure to Autonomous Transaction Processing in a multi-part series.

I am particularly interested in using cloud services without unnecessarily increasing the complexity of the application architecture.

Cloud, APEX and AI

Cloud is also becoming the connection point between several technologies I work with.

Oracle Database, APEX and AI services can increasingly be combined within the same ecosystem.

This creates new possibilities for modernizing existing business applications without abandoning the data and business logic accumulated over many years.

Database → APEX → Cloud → AI

Cloud is one stage in that evolution — not the beginning of it.
